The team at Sandwich Sandwich have announced they are set to open the ‘UK’s biggest sandwich shop’ as they prepare to open their second London location. The family-run business, which began life in Bristol in 2010, arrived in the capital just three months ago, opening its first London store in Gresham Street back in July.
The brand’s new store will be situated in the heart of the City of London in Mark Lane, in a spot that connects Great Tower Street and Fenchurch Street. Josh Kleiner, head of operations and marketing at Sandwich Sandwich, told BristolLive: “We’re looking to launch the UK’s biggest sandwich shop – we can’t find one bigger. I know that the mega Greggs in Piccadilly is only 1,500 square feet, while this is 3,500 square feet of what will be a sandwich making machine.
“Our 2,000 square foot shop on Gresham Street was just nowhere near big enough for the demand, the thousands of people who come through daily. So we really want to build a flagship in the heart of the city that can do all of our catering, our grab and go – things like that.
“That’s happening imminently. Hopefully opening in December, or January, which is super exciting. We’re all quite nervous, because the opening of the Gresham Street shop took so much out of us – when I say sleepless nights, I genuinely mean it – and we’re such a small team, so sometimes people think we’re crazy.
“But the support has been phenomenal. We’re so grateful to even be in a position with everything going on in the world, that we can expand. But to see people so supportive of what we’re doing, and genuinely loving what we do – that’s getting us super excited.”
Josh adds that the new store will have more space for staff to work – with up to 20 sandwich artists on a line-up at any given time during busy periods. And, when it comes to the family’s hometown, Josh says that there will be more to come to Bristol in the future – think more sites and even more exclusive flavours for Bristolians only to enjoy.

Josh continues: “I can’t put into words how much I miss Bristol. We want it to be our home forever and, without it, we wouldn’t be in the position we are today. So we want to bring something exciting that’s just for Bristol – but that’s further down the line.”
Known for their iconic, generously filled sandwiches, decadent scotch eggs, and indulgent cheesecakes, Sandwich Sandwich has built a devoted following in-store and online – among locals, regulars, and even celebrity chefs), and Josh’s family (including his father and Sandwich Sandwich founder, Nick Kleiner) have received coveted awards for their brand.
Nick Kleiner says: “We’ve gained invaluable insights from our experience at Gresham Street. We’ve listened closely to our customers and have used their feedback to shape Mark Lane, ensuring it provides an even better experience for our customers.”
According to the official details, the Mark Lane store will feature a diverse Grab & Go selection, alongside bespoke sandwich creations, all expertly crafted by their skilled deli team. In addition, this new flagship location will serve as the headquarters for the brand’s catering services, scaling up production capabilities to better serve their clientele.
All current Sandwich Sandwich stores in London and Bristol, including the recently opened Gresham Street, and the hugely popular Baldwin Street branches, will remain open.
