Hugo Keenan – 8

Starting XV

Put Mark Tele’a into touch to avert some serious danger and then nailed Will Jordan. Came up with another quality stop against Tele’a.

Mack Hansen – 7

First Test match since last year’s World Cup quarter-final defeat to this opposition and secured the penalty for the first score. Some good work too.

Garry Ringrose – 6

One bone-crunching thump to welcome Rieko Ioane to Dublin, and then Jordie Barrett was binned for a hit on Ireland’s 13. Replaced by Jamie Osborne.

Bundee Aki – 7

Vital that he was at his bulldozing best, and after a knock-on there was a trademark tackle and break. Put Sam Kane back over his try line to help Ireland towards their only try.

James Lowe – 7

The reliable left boot was in evidence but was too easily stepped when charging in on Damian McKenzie. Fired a superb 50/22 late on.

Jack Crowley – 5

Had to deliver but didn’t get enough ball or involvement in the opening half. Ugly knock-on in the second and departed early for Ciarán Frawley.

Jamison Gibson-Park – 8

Again, so important for Ireland and he had big tackles on Jordan, McKenzie and Tele’a. Another impactful performance full of typical quality.

Andrew Porter – 7

Opened with a charge-down to set the tone. Good carry for Josh van der Flier’s try.

Rónan Kelleher – 6

With barely any game time straight in against the All Blacks. Showed up really well in the loose though lineouts were lost.

Finlay Bealham – 5

A rare start due to Tadgh Furlong’s absence, had an early ball-carry and then had to battle. Only off briefly and had to return.

Joe McCarthy – 5

In the middle of the early aggro and then lost a lineout to Barrett. Smashed Kane backwards, then lost the ball in contact.

James Ryan – 5

Had a nice early gallop but after hitting Cortez Ratima was then done for slowing the ball. Nice carry for Van der Flier’s score but quiet.

Tadhg Beirne – 5

Tried to win his jackal penalties and was pinged for a high tackle on Ardie Savea. Just didn’t seem to get into the game.

Josh van der Flier – 7

There was a vital tackle on Ratima on scramble and the red cap was there time and again to snuff out all manner of danger.

Caelan Doris – 6

Nice hands for the skipper in the lead up to a penalty but needed more impact. Great break off a scrum for Van der Flier’s try.

Replacements

Farrell called in the reinforcements on 57 minutes with Rob Herring, Tom O’Toole, Iain Henderson and Ciaran Frawley all on. None had significant impact as the game slipped away and the later arrivals of Peter O’Mahony, Conor Murray, Cian Healy and Jamie Osborne didn’t turn it. 4

Head coach

Andy Farrell – 5

Ireland functioned in fits and starts and never really took adequate control. His bench didn’t work as Ireland’s discipline cracked under pressure.
