All Travis Kelce wanted to do was celebrate his Kansas City Chiefs scoring an overtime win to remain undefeated.
Instead, he felt the wrath of his left-leaning fans, who were still hurting over the Democrats’ loss in Tuesday’s U.S. presidential election.
Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, the all-pro tight end shared a gallery of photos featuring his teammates after Kansas City’s 30-24 overtime win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from Monday night.
The victory improved his team’s record to 8-0 and kept them the only undefeated team in the NFL.
“Arrowhead at night,” Kelce wrote, including a pair of fire emojis.
However, some felt the post was poorly timed after former president Donald Trump defeated vice president Kamala Harris to become the 47th president of the United States in Tuesday’s election.
“Love you but feel like maybe this could have been rescheduled to post any day but today,” one user wrote in the comments.
“Travis pls not right now we’re mourning,” another added.
“Trav I love you but pls read the room,” a third replied, with several others echoing the ‘read the room’ sentiment.
The Instagram account of Travis and brother Jason Kelce’s New Heights podcast added, “Keeping it rolling.”
While Travis did not endorse either presidential candidate publicly, his girlfriend, pop megastar Taylor Swift, threw her considerable backing behind Harris.
Swift had endorsed Harris in an Instagram post in September after a presidential debate.
Several other commenters asked what he and Swift thought about results of the election and jokingly prodded whether he and Swift would be leaving the country.
“Are you and Taylor okay after your embarrassing loss last night?” one user commented on the post.
“You finishing the season before you and Taylor move out the country?” another asked.
“So when is your and Taylor’s planes leaving?” a third replied.
Swift took in the Chiefs-Buccaneers game from a suite at Arrowhead Stadium on Monday night instead of opting to attend a rally for Harris.
The 14-time Grammy winner was seen cheering with her mom, Andrea, Kelce’s mom, Donna, and Brittany Mahomes, the wife of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Brittany had been a vocal Trump supporter during the election race and many outsiders believed it caused friction between her and Swift.
Swift begins the final leg of her Eras Tour next week in Toronto at Rogers Centre with six shows starting on Nov. 14. The tour concludes in Vancouver next month.
