Co Down comedian Patrick Kielty has encouraged fans to be quick as the ticket lottery for this year’s Late Late Toy Show opens to the public.

The ever popular annual festive show which focuses on children and their toys, is one of the biggest nights of the year for RTE’s Late Late Show.

This will be Kielty’s second Toy Show after taking the helm of the world’s second-longest running late night talk show last year.

The Toy Show has been running since 1974 when senior researcher Pan Collins pitched the idea of a segment on children’s toys to then-host Gay Byrne.

Kielty’s first attempt at presenting the show – which has ingrained itself into Irish Christmas tradition – was well-received as viewers praised his down-to-earth approach.

This year’s Toy Show takes place on Friday, December 6.

Those hoping to get their hands on the much sought after tickets will be asked to share their favourite Christmas song as part of the application.

Fans must be available on December 6, and have been reminded that tickets are non-transferable.

Speaking as part of the ticket lottery launch, Dundrum comedian Kielty said: “It’s that special time of the year where I become weirdly popular with family, friends and complete strangers.

“And yet they all just want to ask me the same question, ‘Any chance of an aul ticket for the Toy Show?’

“Well sadly I don’t have any and can’t get any but here’s how you could be joining me for the biggest night of the year on December 6.

“Remember, Toy Show dreams do come true but you’ve got to be in it to win in. So be quick. And be lucky.”

Tickets will be allocated by random selection to give all that apply a fair and equal chance at being in the audience, said RTE.
