Mercedes-AMG early November teased the powerful step it plans to take with its first fully-in-house-developed battery-powered SUV, “Born in Affalterbach” and designed on the brand’s own dedicated AMG.EA electric platform. This high-performance model should be heading out for winter test drives shortly, ahead of its 2026 release.

The all-electric SUV is a new chapter for AMG, as it will blend the brand’s hallmark performance with a bespoke electric vehicle (EV) architecture. The SUV’s quad-motor powertrain, rumoured to produce over 1,000 horsepower (746 kW), will provide all-wheel-drive and control through advanced torque-vectoring capabilities. Built on an 800V system, it should deliver increased efficiency and power, driven by AMG-specific lightweight axial-flux electric motors from Yasa, a U.K.-based engineering partner.

The design’s muscular profile balances performance-driven aesthetics and sophistication, very much à la AMG. The teaser image reveals a stunted yet bold front end, aggressive fender lines, and a long hood. This model’s dimensions — 5.1 metres (200 inches) in length, with a three-metre (118-inch) wheelbase — position it alongside the EQS SUV flagship in terms of size, though it’s all bespoke AMG.

The AMG.EA platform embodies Mercedes-AMG’s approach to building electric vehicles, prioritizing high-performance standards. This new model marks an important change in AMG’s direction toward electric performance, a necessary move to grow its electric-vehicle lineup within the premium high-performance segments.

AMG’s new SUV will compete with conventional and electrified high-performance SUVs, including the Porsche Cayenne GT, Lamborghini Urus, Aston Martin DBX, BMW XM, and Lotus Eletre.

Further developments are expected for the 2026 model year as AMG continues its testing and slow-drip teaser campaign. Additional details are likely to emerge as the launch approaches.
