A woman who has spent her entire life on a diet and who was starting to give up hope of ever losing weight has discovered the answer to her food addiction – hypnosis. Joanne Turgoose says she has thrown away thousands of pounds on slimming clubs and wasted precious time on fad food plans, counting calories, calculating and dissecting the ingredients on food labels and never getting off the roller coaster of weight loss.
“It has been exhausting, demoralising and for me unsuccessful because it’s always been disappointingly temporary,” the 55-year-old, from Somerset, said. Ever since she was a child, Joanne ‘rarely felt the satisfaction of feeling full’, she says. “My gut was not telling my brain that it had been fed enough so my portion sizes were far too big. And the amount of food on the plate never looked enough, so when dining out I would not opt for the meal I really liked but for the meal that was the largest.
“Earlier this year, I went out with friends and I ordered the salmon while they had steak. When the food arrived, my plate was half the size and came with a small serving of potatoes and veggies and their plates were huge with a large portion of chips, rice and salad accompanied by an enormous piece of meat. I felt really hard-done-by and decided that I would never order the salmon again despite it being one of my favourite meals,” she said.
But a few months ago, Joanne, found a post on Facebook from remedial hypnotist Sarah Wellband and sent her a message asking for help. Together, the pair explored the physical and emotional impact food had on Joanne’s life, and Joanne paid for two sessions. No-trance hypnotherapy involves the client being awake and alert throughout.
“I left the first session feeling extremely relaxed but if I’m honest I didn’t think it would work. How wrong I was. The change to my diet has been astonishing, I feel full after a small amount of food. After my first session, I was putting less on my plate without thinking about it. But I hadn’t even realised I was doing it; my husband noticed, not me. I had no conscious awareness that I was taking less food.
“After my second session, I went out with friends and ordered salmon and when it arrived with a lovely amount of potatoes and veggies it looked and tasted gorgeous. My friends’ plates were enormous and I couldn’t help thinking how horrid it looked because it was so big and so full of food, and because I was satisfied and full I declined a rather nice slice of cheesecake. That is a dramatic turnaround”, she says.
Joanne has lost 9lbs in just over a month without altering her diet. She eats the same food as she did before, but she has lost the desire to overeat. Joanne also used the no-trance hypnotherapy sessions to help cure her lifelong fear of spiders.
“I can’t believe I have for the first time in my life found the solution. It has changed my life without me having to think consciously about it. It’s so incredibly simple and I wish I had found Sarah a long time ago. I’m really excited about my much healthier and lighter future,” she adds.
