Celtic midfielder Arne Engels dismissed suggestions he or his team would have anything extra to prove against German opposition.
The former Augsburg player goes up against RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Tuesday, a month after Celtic were thrashed 7-1 by Borussia Dortmund.
It was a swift and painful return to Germany for Celtic’s record signing but not something the 21-year-old is dwelling on ahead of the encounter with a team sitting second in the Bundesliga.
When asked if they had a point to prove, the Belgium international said: “Not really, we want to win every game. That’s always our mindset and that’s always the mindset of Celtic also.
“We are playing at home, so of course we want to put in a good performance and I think we will. It’s not really a revenge or something about the Bundesliga team at all.
“We just need to look at ourselves and be prepared and I think we will be.”
A goalless draw with Atalanta in Italy last time out in the Champions League helped Celtic get over their Dortmund defeat and they have now kept four clean sheets in succession.
“We are pretty confident,” Engels said. “We showed that we can really defend and can play against really good teams. You see Atalanta now in Serie A playing really amazing football and beating Napoli in the weekend.
“That shows confidence for us that we can do that against really good teams.”
