Detectives investigating a creeper-style burglary in north Belfast and further incidents in which two police cars were rammed have charged a 24-year-old man to appear in court.

The man was charged with a total of 16 offences including burglary, aggravated vehicle taking causing damage to another vehicle and dangerous driving.

The incidents happened shortly after 12am on Saturday after police received earlier reports that a Silver Toyota Yaris had been stolen from an address in Brucevale Park, north Belfast.

Officers, including the specialist police interceptor team, tracked the vehicle through the west of the city where it rammed a police vehicle on the Monagh Bypass.

Local officers brought the car to a stop on Norglen Parade close to Upper Springfield Road where they were rammed again.

The man was taken from the vehicle and arrested.

Police later said that four officers were injured during the incident

Detective Sergeant Magee said: “The fact that our officers were assaulted during the course of their duties is entirely unacceptable. Thankfully, there were no reports of any serious injuries and they were all able to remain on duty.”

The man is due to appear before Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Monday 4th November.

As is normal procedure all charges are reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
