This is the moment police arrested a 24-year-old man after two PSNI cars were rammed by a stolen car in west Belfast.
The incident happened shortly after 12am on Saturday after police received earlier reports that a Silver Toyota Yaris had been stolen from an address in Brucevale Park, north Belfast.
Officers, including the specialist police interceptor team, tracked the vehicle through the west of the city where it rammed a police vehicle on the Monagh Bypass.
Local officers brought the car to a stop on Norglen Parade close to Upper Springfield Road where they were rammed again.
The man was taken from the vehicle and arrested.
Police later said that four officers were injured during the incident.
Detective Sergeant Magee said: “A report was received that sometime after 8pm on Friday evening, a Toyota Yaris had been stolen from outside a property in the Brucevale Park area of north Belfast after an unknown person had entered the house and stolen the car keys.
“Officers sighted the stolen vehicle in the Monagh Bypass area at around 12.20am and signalled for it to stop. The driver instead rammed the police car and drove on until encountering a second police car at Norglen Parade, which it also rammed.
“The officers were able to arrest the driver, a 24-year-old man, on suspicion of a number of offences including burglary, attempted grievous bodily harm with intent, aggravated vehicle taking causing damage to another vehicle and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs. The man remains in custody at this time, assisting with enquiries.
“Four officers sustained minor injuries during the course of the incidents, and thankfully none required hospital treatment.
“The fact that our officers were assaulted during the course of their duties yesterday is entirely unacceptable. Thankfully, there were no reports of any serious injuries and they were all able to remain on duty.”
