Raygun has fired a shot at her critics: If you think you can dance better than the Aussie Olympian, prove it for a chance to win some cash.
Rachael Gunn, the Australian Olympic breakdancer known as Raygun who went viral for performance at the Summer Olympics in Paris, issued the challenge on Instagram earlier this week.
The 37-year-old has teamed up with Finder, a global financial technology company, to challenge her critics to a dance-off with $15,000 AUD on the line – roughly $14,000 CAD.
In a video posted to Instagram by Finder, Gunn appears seated on a couch on a white soundstage.
“I’ve heard some of you think you can do better than me,” Gunn said. “Really?”
She then cracks her knuckles and breaks into one of her signature viral poses – perking up like a kangaroo.
“Let’s find out, shall we?” she asks before busting out some of her best dance moves to the tune of Finder advertisement music.
“Think you can do better?” she says at the end of the dance. “Let’s find out.”
To enter the contest, dancers must put together a video to the same music and post it to Instagram with the hashtag #RaygunChallenge.
The company will award $5Gs to the best solo dancer and $10Gs to the best crew.
Raygun became an instant viral sensation at the Summer Games in Paris earlier this year.
The Aussie caught the world’s attention for her controversial routine, which included moves that resembled kangaroo hopping, rolling on the floor like a toddler and doing the sprinkler.
She failed to score a single point and lost all three of her matchups in Paris, finishing second-last in the event ahead of only one competitor who was disqualified.
Japan’s Ami Yuasa took gold in the event while Lithuania’s Dominika Banevic secured silver, and Liu Qingyi of China walked away with bronze.
Raygun recently traded in her tracksuit for a hot new look during a magazine photoshoot.
Gunn graced the cover of Oct. 27 issue of Stellar, which boasts that it is “Australia’s most-read Sunday magazine, with exclusive agenda-setting interviews, fashion and insights from the country’s top lifestyle experts.”
And while we’re sure that you’ll see plenty of people sporting her signature green tracksuit and hat that she wore in Paris for Halloween, Gunn stepped up her style game with a new look for the shoot.
The world’s No. 22-ranked B Girl wears her hair slicked back into a braid while looking fantastic in a vibrant blue dress with large sleeves – which pops against a yellow background – and a pair of black strappy sandals. Gunn also rocks red lipstick while striking a strong, defiant pose.
Earlier this week, Gunn suffered a setback in an effort to cash in on her newfound fame when her attempt to trademark her nickname was rejected.
Gunn made an application to register the name Raygun on Aug. 23 with the Australian trademarks office in hopes to use for various purposes, including software, clothing and entertainment.
