A Post Office will finally return to an area of South Bristol which has been without a facility since 2023. A letter which was released on the Post Office’s consultation hub has revealed that the Stockwood branch will be restored on Friday, December 13 at 1pm, at which point the area would have been without a branch for almost two years.
The new branch will be within a Premier convenience store, located at 90 Hollway Road. The convenience store opened in September.
The store replaced the former McColl’s which closed in 2023. It housed the only post office in Stockwood, meaning residents wanting to use a post office had to travel to either Keynsham or Knowle.
The letter on the Post Office’s website said the closure of the former branch, in January 2023, was due to the resignation of the postmaster and the withdrawal of the premises used. Whilst most services will be offered at the branch, services including travel money, vehicle tax and on demand travel insurance will not be available.
The letter said: “We are delighted to let you know that we will be restoring Post Office services to Stockwood on Friday, December 13 at 1pm. The branch closed in January 2023 following the resignation of the postmaster and the withdrawal of the premises for Post Office use.
“When the branch opens, it will change to one of our Local style branches and services will be offered at the retail counter. The new service will be operating from the same premises with a newly appointed Postmaster, offering a range of Post Office products and services.
“I know that the local community will join me in welcoming this good news and hope that you and our customers will continue to use this service. Thank you for your support in restoring a Post Office service.”
