Juan Pablo Montoya cannot fathom Lewis Hamilton’s ‘uncanny’ successful timing in choosing when to change teams throughout his F1 career as he prepares to join Ferrari.
Hamilton has just four races left with Mercedes before he joins Charles Leclerc at Ferrari to form another mega partnership.
The switch comes after a few years of disappointment at Mercedes after their record-breaking run at the top of the sport.
Mercedes won eight consecutive Constructors’ Championships with Hamilton clinching six of his seven world titles with the team.

But regulation changes in 2022 saw Hamilton and George Russell struggle to compete for race wins and the former went nearly three years without a Grand Prix victory.
An agreement was announced earlier this year for Hamilton to join Ferrari for the 2025 season and the move currently on paper looks to be a smart one for next year at least.
Mercedes have gone backwards in recent weeks with Russell’s third-place finish in Azerbaijan their only podium since the Belgian Grand Prix.
Meanwhile, Ferrari have back-to-back races in Texas and Mexico City and appear to have found a sweet spot in their car as they battle for the Constructors’ Championship.
Montoya, who won seven F1 races in his career, feels Hamilton has made another savvy decision by choosing now to join Ferrari.
And he points to Hamilton’s decision to leave McLaren for Mercedes back in 2012 as another example of the 39-year-old’s impeccable timing.
“Every time Lewis jumps ship, he does so to a winning car,” he told Instant Casino.
“It is remarkable. It is great for him and hats off to him. He goes to McLaren and starts winning.

“He leaves McLaren and everyone wonders why. They go to the back of the grid and Lewis goes to Mercedes and wins all those championships. It is uncanny.
“Ferrari are making such improvements and low and behold here comes Lewis.
“It is unbelievable. I don’t know how he does it but he always lands in a better place.

“Good for him, and it will be great to have Lewis in a Ferrari winning races and potentially the championship. That is a real possibility.”
Hamilton will be hoping to fight at the front of the grid next year, but will also have one eye on 2026 when new regulations are set to be introduced once again.
He signed a two-year deal with Ferrari so will at least be in the sport until the end of the 2026 season.
