Jose Mourinho believes Manchester United are getting the ‘best coach in Portugal’ as they prepare to appoint Ruben Amorim as their new manager, reports say.

Amorim is expected to take charge of the Red Devils after the international break in the wake of Erik ten Hag’s dismissal.

Ten Hag was chopped by the fallen giants at the start of the week, just months after he steered them to glory in the FA Cup final.

Amorim is set to become United’s sixth permanent boss in the years since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.

And Mourinho, one of his predecessors, reportedly thinks positive things about his fellow Portuguese.

The Manchester Evening News say the 61-year-old feels United are getting the ‘best coach in Portugal’ as they look to bring the glory days back to Old Trafford.

Amorim visited United’s Carrington training complex back in April 20178 for an internship.

Mourinho remembers him as a ‘good kid’, it’s claimed, with the pair posing for a photograph together on that occasion.

Amorim’s work at Sporting has seen him widely hailed as one of the best young managers of his generation.

They are top of the Primeira Liga, having won all nine of their matches – scoring 30 goals along the way.

But Mourinho reportedly thinks Amorim will not be ‘as gung-ho as his favoured 3-4-3 formation suggests’.

This is because the young manager tends to switch to a 5-4-1- whenever his team don’t have the ball.

Mourinho thinks Amorim is ‘always intense’ and believes he won’t ever change his style, regardless of the opposition.

United will, however, represent the 39-year-old’s biggest job so far.

They are a different kettle of fish compared to Sporting and the pressure will be immense given the sheer scale of the club.

With Amorim not expected to take charge of United until next month, Ruud van Nistelrooy will be in charge of the club on an interim basis.
