A vehicle has been mysteriously abandoned on a Cornish beach, with rising tides threatening to engulf it. The black car’s presence on Lizard Point beach remains a puzzle, with no clear indication of its owner.
The BMW caught the attention of a holidaymaker at the beach yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, October 29), who was surprised to find the vehicle draped in seaweed and without a number plate, its tyres entrenched in the sand near the water’s edge.
The bewildered tourist observed the incoming tide as they departed from the beach, leading them to suspect that the car would imminently be “lost to the water”.
In Cornwall, the phenomenon of vehicles becoming trapped on sandy shores is a hallmark of what’s often referred to as “silly season”, with numerous instances of cars stuck due to ill-advised parking attempts. Despite its frequency, the spectacle of failed beach parking persists, with the expectation of more to follow, even though this particular incident has occurred outside the typical timeframe for such events.
If you’re curious about when silly season traditionally kicks off, it’s generally with the onset of summer as tourists flock for their holidays, frequently finding themselves in these predicaments, though not exclusively. Yet, each year seems to bring an earlier start to the chaos, with this year’s silly season commencing as early as April, reports Cornwall Live.
Among the most disastrous incidents we’ve witnessed, an AA van found itself ensnared in the sand while attempting to rescue a car, and an Audi was driven down a footpath leading to a well-liked Cornish beach. Some vehicles have even been swallowed by the sea, a scenario that occurs more frequently than you might imagine.
