A popular pub and restaurant in Bristol has been named within the 20 best places for a Sunday roast. The Clifton, located at 16 Regent Street, was one of just two picks from the south west in the list created by the Telegraph.
The Sunday menu at the pub and restaurant offers a range of dishes and choices as the Sunday menu is written to pick and choose rather than going for a set menu. The Clifton has been awarded a Bib Gourmand award by the Michelin Guide for good quality and good value cooking.
The list of the 20 best places to eat a roast has included the restaurant in Clifton, saying it is best for “lazy afternoons”. The review said: “A Sunday stroll around leafy Clifton Village should always end up over a glass of red at The Clifton.
“This stylish local, tastefully appointed with candlelit tables and green-painted wainscoting, is known for nose-to-tail eating in the “St John” style. Start with ox heart skewers or oysters with a good dash of Tabasco, ahead of, say, stuffed Gothelney pork belly and apple sauce (£24) or Torgelly Farm lamb and mint sauce (£28). Lose the afternoon over freshly baked madeleines or British cheese.”
Also included in the Sunday roast menu is the likes of roast sirloin with duck fat potatoes, yorkshire pudding and horseradish, coming to £27, and hake with fennel, green sauce, langoustine and smoked new potatoes for £25. A range of puddings and beverages are included on the popular menu.
The Clifton was not the only place in our region that made the list, as the Three Horseshoes, in Batcombe, Somerset, was also selected from the south west. The village pub made the list due to its “heavenly puddings” as well as its traditional roasts.
