Tom Brady has shared an emotional post to his Instagram Stories following news that his ex-wife Gisele Bundchen is expecting her first child with her new boyfriend, Joaquim Valente.
A source close to Bundchen confirmed to PEOPLE this week that the 44-year-old supermodel is pregnant with her third child.
“Gisele and Joaquim are happy for this new chapter in their life and they’re looking forward to creating a peaceful and loving environment for the whole family,” the source told PEOPLE in a statement.
Bundchen began dating the 37-year-old jiu-jitsu instructor in 2023 after her split from Brady.
Following his wife’s news, Brady, 47, posted a photo of a sunset along with The Chicks’ cover of Fleetwood Mac’s Landslide. Written by Stevie Nicks, the lyrics of the song reflects on the changes and challenges of life.
Brady’s message included three heart emojis and displayed the lyrics: “Oh mirror in the sky, what is love / Can the child inside my heart rise above / Can I sail through the changing ocean tides?”
Brady and Bundchen finalized their divorce in October 2022 after 13 years of marriage, with the exes agreeing to jointly parent their two children — son Benjamin Rein, 14, and daughter Vivian Lake, 11.
The former NFL quarterback has another son, 17-year-old John “Jack” Edward Thomas, whom he shares with his ex-girlfriend, Blue Bloods star Bridget Moynahan.
TMZ Sports reported that Bundchen alerted Brady to news of the pregnancy before media reports leaked out Monday evening.
Earlier this year, Bundchen was left “disappointed” by the jokes made about her marriage to the seven-time Super Bowl winner when he signed up to be roasted on Netflix.
A source told PEOPLE that Bundchen was “deeply disappointed by the disrespectful portrayal of her family on Sunday evening’s roast show.”
“As always, (Bundchen’s) priority is to support her children who were affected by the irresponsible content that was broadcasted,” the insider added.
“Gisele gave you an ultimatum. She said you retire or we’re done. When you got a chance to go 8-9 and all it will cost you is your wife and your kids, you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do,” host Kevin Hart said, referring to Brady coming out of a brief retirement in 2022 for one more season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Hart then joked about Bundchen’s relationship with her jiu-jitsu instructor Valente.
Hart said that Brady “f***ed” coach Bill Belichick by leaving the New England Patriots for the Bucs. ”You f***ed him good. You did, Tom, you f***ed your coach, but let me tell you something people … that’s what you’ve got to do to maintain your happiness. You sometimes got to f*** your coach. You know who else f***ed their coach? Gisele. She f***ed that karate man.”
Hart continued to mock their failed marriage, saying: “I mean Jesus Christ, Tom. One of the smartest quarterbacks ever played a game. How did you not see this coming? Eight f***ing karate classes a day. … Eight karate classes a day and she’s still a white belt. F*** Tom. The only bruises she had were on her ass. everybody should have known it.”
Comedian Nikki Glaser also relentlessly teased the former NFL star about his marriage to Bundchen.
“Five-time Super Bowl MVP, most career wins, most career touchdowns. You have seven rings. Well, eight, now that Gisele gave hers back,” Glaser said, referencing his seven Super Bowl titles.
“But sorry, Tom, the only thing dumber than you saying yes to this roast was when you said, ‘Hey, babe, you should try jiu jitsu.’ That’s gotta suck,” Glaser added, making a NFSW quip about how Brady must struggle knowing that “your ex wife’s new boyfriend can beat your ass” while doing something else.
The two have never spoken about what led to their split, with rumours that she was upset that he decided to return to football after announcing his retirement in early 2022.
But in an interview with Vanity Fair, Bundchen said their priorities had changed as they got older.
“When I was 26 years old and he was 29 years old, we met, we wanted a family, we wanted things together. As time goes by, we realize that we just wanted different things,” she told Vanity Fair in March 2023.
After the Roast, Brady said he regretted agreeing to participate.
“I liked when the jokes were about me. I thought they were so fun. I didn’t like the way they affected my kids,” Brady admitted during an appearance on The Pivot Podcast. “It’s the hardest part about … like the bittersweet aspect of when you do something that you think is one way and then all of a sudden you realize I wouldn’t do that again because of the way that it affected actually the people that I care about the most in the world.”
