SOMETHING NEEDS TO CHANGE

As a retired police officer, I am privy to many retired police officer websites. It is the opinion of these officers, and the silent majority of the public, that since carding was stopped, violent crime, shootings, stabbings, sexual assaults, etc. have exploded. We are sick of weak politicians and weaker police brass giving the tired old “this is unacceptable” speeches. Surely there is a police chief or even a police association boss who will have the guts to stand up and say it is time bring a type of carding back that allows police to act proactively instead of rushing to another crime scene where all they can do is load ambulances or fill body bags. The powers that be certainly don’t seem to have any other solutions to offer.

(The current mayor of Toronto, with this police board will never entertain this. Perhaps one day there will be a police chief who can make the case to bring back a reasonable approach to street checks)

WAS THERE A WARNING?

Re “Trudeau plays politics, refuses to take foreign interference seriously” (Brian Lilley, Oct. 15): It sounds about right that it could be yet again another approach to get some support back which is not in the best national interest that his government announced about Indian involvement in recent violence perpetrated on Canadian citizens on Canadian soil. Sifting through Indian media created another picture and shifts some blame to our own Canadian government when India says they had been advising and warning Justin Trudeau’s government about letting bad actors into Canada from India. They accuse Canada of just trying to evade responsibility for their own ‘open border’ policy especially towards Indians coming to Canada. If this is true to an extent then it is a question which has to be posed to the Liberals’ NDP-supported government. Things must have been documented at the highest level and the government should come out in the open to explain if India ever warned Canada about unscrupulous elements being given access to this country.

(It is an important point but we cannot trust the Trudeau government is actually going to be transparent about what is happening)
