Chelsea made it two wins out of two in the Europa Conference League after beating Panathinaikos 4-1 in Athens.

Joao Felix scored twice as Mykhailo Mudryk and Christopher Nkunku also got on the scoresheet.

Former Manchester United star Facundo Pellestri grabbed a consolation goal but it was too little too late for the Greek side.

But it was Felix who really shone on Thursday night for the Blues, who might have had a hat-trick on another night.

Before a ball was kicked in Athens, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca had admitted he had wanted to give Felix more minutes this season but with so many players, he has found himself largely on the bench.

With Cole Palmer firmly first-choice in the No. 10 role, the former Atletico Madrid star has been a bit-part player so far this season.

But he made his case to Maresca why he should be given a more prominent role in the current set-up with his double, as well as running the game.

The Portugal international was popping up all over the pitch, dictating play from deep as well as toiling defenders in attack.

It was his clever header to Mudryk before racing into the box to latch onto his low cross that opened the scoring in Athens.

There was some fortune about his second goal, as his shot deflected off a defender before flying past the goalkeeper.

But he deserved his luck for his constant endeavour while Mudryk can also be proud of his performance.

With the signing of Jadon Sancho, the Ukraine international has looked even further out of the picture at Stamford Bridge.

Indeed, he was not even on the bench when Chelsea travelled to Anfield to take on Liverpool on Sunday.

But the forward was Chelsea’s main provider on Thursday night, handing Felix the opener before getting on the scoresheet himself.

Pedro Neto crossed the ball for Mudryk to head home and double Chelsea’s score shortly after the break.

Felix’s second goal and Nkunku’s penalty soon after put the game to bed for the Blues, as Maresca threw on the likes of Tyrique George, Cesare Casadei and Marc Guiu.

With Chelsea facing Newcastle on Sunday, the Italian coach will need all of his players ship-shape after a long journey to and from Greece.

And Felix and Mudryk might have just given Maresca something else to think about as he looks to prepare his side for the arrival of the Toon.
