When it comes to Halloween, it can sometimes be hard to know where to take the kids – and adults – to enjoy a spooky display or two. But, did you know that there’s a dedicated map of just that available online and created by the people of Bristol?

Displays in Bristol‘ has a dedicated map to Halloween displays in the city, as well as whether they are outside, in the window of a house, immersive, and whether you can see them as you walk by, or from the car. What’s more, people can add their own Halloween displays to the map, making it easier for families and fans of this time of year to find and enjoy them.

The Facebook page of the same name ‘Halloween displays in Bristol’, which boasts more than 1,000 followers on the social platform, also shares regular updates about displays on the map, and will let you know when a new one has been added. It was first founded on July 28 2020, during the Covid pandemic, “to help people find safe and free things to do when there was not much on”, organisers say.

The following year a Christmas version was formed, ‘Christmas Displays in Bristol‘, to “allow anyone, big or small, to open up their display to the city and beyond’. After many requests from those outside of the realms of Facebook, the website was officially launched with the hope of “bringing displays to everyone on any device”.

Those behind the website say: “We gladly advertise anyone during the Halloween/festive seasons that are raising money for charity or just decorating for fun – whether it is a window display, garden display, walk through or many other types that we have seen over the years!”

All of the posts and map markers include images of the displays, as well as a key relating to how immersive it is, so you know exactly what to expect. This is great for trying to avoid the incredibly spooky when it comes to younger Halloween fans, or even trying to scope out the eeriest display for those among us who want a bit more of a scare.

Some displays listed are just for fun, while others are raising money for charities and other good causes. What’s more, the displays aren’t confined to one singular part of Bristol – they span from Portishead to Keynsham, Wrington to Longwell Green, Stoke Bishop to Stockwood, and even Thornbury, Yate and Chipping Sodbury, too.

At time of writing there are already some 17 displays added to the map, with more being added each day. We’ve picked out just a few of our favourites so far below – but you can find the full list via the interactive map (and add your own display) here.
