A study by house-buying experts Housebuyers4u has revealed the most sought-after places to live in the UK, using data from the Home Office and Tripadvisor.

The five categories include a culture score (based on shopping, nightlife, and more), a green score (based on the count and rating of nature and parks), a housing score (based on housing affordability), a utility score (based on energy and gas), and a violent crime score (based on the annual increase or decrease of reported incidents).

The list featured a variety of historical, coastal and rural towns and cities, with Blackpool ranking third. The Lancashire town scored highly for its attractions, including 27 concerts and show attractions, 18 more than the national average, giving it a culture score of 77.36 out of 100.

Blackpool also scored well for housing affordability. Rightmove data shows that properties in Blackpool had an average price of £147,866 over the past year, making it an affordable option for families and couples.

Most sales in Blackpool last year were semi-detached properties, selling for an average price of £162,175. Terraced properties sold for an average of £111,375, while detached properties fetched £272,553, reports the Express.

Blackpool, famed for its pleasure beach, illuminations, and the iconic Blackpool Tower, offers a vibrant nightlife and is an ideal spot for families. Affordable housing, excellent facilities and stunning coastal views make it a perfect choice for those considering relocation.

Blackpool scored 68.61 out of 100 on the index, which is 34.7 per cent above the national average. York was crowned the best place to live in 20214, scoring 78.36 out of 100 for culture and a perfect 100 for nature.

With 43 parks and natural landscapes, including Rowntree Park and Museum Gardens, York is a fantastic option for those who enjoy city life and nature walks. The city’s overall score was 70.75 out of 100, 38.9 per cent above the national average of 50.90.

Nottingham narrowly beat Blackpool to second place with a final index score of 69.48 out of 100. Nottingham scored highly for utilities (80.98 out of 100), with electricity prices three per cent above the national average.
