The search for a 66-year-old woman who fell from a Taylor Swift-themed cruise near the Bahamas has been called off.
The woman went overboard from the Royal Caribbean ship Allure of the Seas approximately 27 km north of the capital Nassau on Tuesday night.
“Our crew immediately launched a search and rescue effort and is working with local authorities,” a Royal Caribbean spokesperson earlier told ABC News.
“We are also providing support and assistance to the guest’s family during this difficult time. To respect the privacy of our guest’s family, we have no additional details to share.”
Passengers got wind of the incident after word spread that a “lifeboat” was circling the ship, which was not moving, a passenger on board told People.
The search was led by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force and was assisted by the U.S. Coast Guard.
The U.S. Coast Guard said an airplane crew and a helicopter from Air Station Miami was used to assist with the search.

However, the efforts to locate the missing passenger was called off a day later.
“We were informed by @TheRBDF [the Royal Bahamas Defence Force] this afternoon that they are suspending the active search efforts pending further developments and were no longer requesting further @USCG [U.S. Coast Guard] assistance, Coast Guard liaison officer Lt. Connor Pascale said in a social media update Wednesday.
The woman has not been identified.
The ship was hosting a four-night Swift-themed “In My Cruise Era” voyage, which set sail from Miami for the Bahamas on Monday. The private event – organized by travel agents Jessica Malerman, Nicole Rivera, and Shelby Reyes – is not affiliated with the singer or cruise ship company.
It is unclear if the woman was among the Swift fans.
