What was the middle brother of Samsung’s flagship Android tablet, the Tab Plus sometimes gets overshadowed by its more imposing – and more expensive – elder brother the Tab Ultra. But really, it’s more than enough tablet for most people and has much the same specs as its larger sibling.

The latest iteration of the Galaxy Tab has seen Samsung dump the smallest version (for now?) and focus on the Tab S10+ and the Tab S10 Ultra. I took the former for a test drive to see if it remains near the top of the tree.

FIrst off, the 12.4-inch device is not radically different in design and look to the previous model. So while the bezels are small and the tablet slim, it’s not reinventing the wheel by any stretch, but the aluminium frame does feel sturdy and premium, boasting an IP68 rating. You can choose from two shades – Moonstone Grey or Platinum Silver.

The star of the show remains the Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, offering vibrant colours, deep blacks, and excellent contrast. The 16:10 ratio is great for watching movies, editing photos, or reading. An upgrade from last year’s model is the anti-reflective finish, which I loved and found really made a difference.

As with all Tabs, you get an S Pen bundled in that you charge on the back of the Galaxy. The pen feels responsive and accurate, making it ideal for artists, designers or anyone who enjoys note-taking. Samsung has also added air gestures to the S Pen, which allow you to control certain apps without touching the screen, although this feels more like a novelty than a must-have.

Under the hood, the Galaxy Tab S10+ is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ processor, which ensures smooth performance even under heavy loads. Paired with 12GB of RAM, the tablet handles multitasking like a pro, running several apps simultaneously without lag. Whether you’re gaming, editing videos, or using professional-grade apps, the Galaxy Tab S10+ handles it effortlessly.

The tablet runs on Samsung’s One UI on top of Android, which is optimized for larger screens and supports features like Samsung DeX, which provides a desktop-like experience. This makes the Tab S10+ a viable laptop replacement for light productivity tasks.

Samsung is making a big hoo-haa (like many companies) over artificial intelligence and I found Galaxy AI often useful and at times a lot of fun. You get features such as Note Assist, Drawing Assist, Chat Assist, Interpreter mode and more right out of the box. Circle to Search is pretty nifty while I must admit I spent plenty of time messing around with images and turning family and friends into cartoon characters!

While tablets aren’t typically known for their cameras, the Galaxy Tab S10+ features a decent 13MP rear camera and an 8MP ultra-wide camera that take solid photos and videos. The 12MP front camera is great for video calls, It also supports facial recognition for secure unlocking, though it’s not as fast or accurate as the fingerprint sensor.

Other things to note is the battery life is solid and the fast charging works well, you can choose between 256GB or 512GB (internal storage only), and the quad speaker setup is decent. One other thing to note is that Samsung is promising seven years of OS updates, which is a cracking offer to be fair.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S10+ is one of the best Android tablets on the market, but so was the S9 and the S8. If you have one of the those models I’d say the upgrade isn’t worth it. But if you’re on the look out for a premium Android that can go toe-to-toe with the iPads then look no further.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S10+ is available from the Samsung website for £999. You can get up to £300 off by trading in your old device. At the time of publication you can get ten per cent off using the code NOW10 as well as a free keyboard worth up to £339.
