A crucial roundabout on the A4174 ring road just outside Bristol will partially close for six nights next week. From Monday (October 28), the Great Stoke Way roundabout, near the Abbeywood Retail Park, will close at night until the roadworks are completed by the morning of Sunday, November 3.

The roundabout, which connects Northville and Filton to the likes of Stoke Gifford, Harry Stoke and the University of the West of England (UWE), will be closed heading northbound and southbound on Great Stoke Way only. It means that whilst traffic will be able to use the roundabout, drivers may need to use one of two diversions in place.

The sections of the roundabout will close at 8pm every night during the roadworks, reopening at 6am the following morning. One.Network lists the project as for “ducting works”.

The first diversion will impact drivers on the southern side of the roundabout and will be for drivers wanting to access Great Stoke Way, towards the Filton Retail Park, or those wanting to U-turn to use the A4174 towards UWE. The diversion follows the A4174 westbound towards Filton, keeping on the A-road until Filton roundabout before travelling back on the A4174 and reaching the northern side.

The second diversion, on the northern side of the roundabout, will affect drivers wanting to access the Abbeywood Retail Park, heading towards MOD Abbey Wood, or those wanting to U-turn back onto the A4174 to Filton. The diversion follows the A4174 eastbound towards UWE, onto Frenchay roundabout (below the M32) and then turning back onto the A4174 heading to Abbeywood.

The continued roadworks on Station Road and Shellard Road, running parallel to the A4174, will be ongoing during this time. This is also due to ducting work.
