A family-run Bristol restaurant has been shortlisted for its second national award in less than a week. Noah’s on Brunel Lock Road next to the Cumberland Basin is the only Bristol business shortlisted in the Restaurant of the Year in the National Fish & Chip Awards.
The nomination comes just days after the restaurant run by chef Dan Rosser and his wife Joie was named as a finalist in two categories at this year’s South West Tourism Awards – for Casual Dining and New Tourism Business of the Year.
And now Noah’s has been listed in the 10 best fish and chip businesses in the UK in The National Fish & Chip Awards. The industry’s most prominent awards celebrate the businesses producing fish and chips of the highest quality, as well as utilising sustainable sources, ensuring employee satisfaction, customer service and more.
Awards organiser, and president of the National Federation of Fish Friers, Andrew Crook says of the entries: “Restaurant of the Year is a favourite category for the judges as there is so much variety in the applicants’ approaches to building on their current level. It’s inspirational to see how our shortlisted line-up is overcoming challenges and thinking of new ways to encourage repeat business in the current climate.
“We’re only at the beginning of the competition but it’s already clear that there’s going to be a lot of deliberating and tough decision making to come but it’s a testament to these great people who are pouring everything they have into their businesses and we’re here to spur them on to achieve all their goals.”
Noah’s is up against fish and chip businesses from all over the UK. These include Malt & Anchor in Cirencester and Pier Point in Torquay.
The 10 shortlisted businesses will have further assessments over the coming weeks and then the shortlist will be halved. The remaining five restaurants will be the finalists, and the winner will be crowned on February 26 at the London awards ceremony.
Dan and Joie opened Noah’s in 2023 and the couple have had an incredible first year. As well as accolades, it received a rave review from food critic Tom Parker Bowles, with the Queen’s son describing the restaurant as a ‘seafood place to savour’ and its Lock Keeper’s Lunch offer ‘one hell of a deal’.
