There is a warning about the potential for significant traffic disruption across Belfast on Thursday due to the cross-border European tie being played at the National Stadium.

Road users have been advised to plan ahead for potential delays due to the game, which is scheduled to kick off at 5.45pm on Thursday.

Traffic congestion is to be expected on primarily on the Boutcher road with the M1 and Donegall Road also seeing a build-up of traffic.

Over 5,000 people are expected to attend the game between Larne and Shamrock Rovers.

Among them, around 1,600 Shamrock Rovers fans are expected to descend on Windsor Park from Dublin.

The PSNI said they will have “an appropriate and proportionate policing operation” ahead of the flurry of supporters expected.

Shamrock Rovers are the Republic’s most successful club while Larne FC are back to back winners of Northern Ireland’s top domestic league.

The PSNI released a statement saying: “We would ask that those driving to the match park with consideration for local residents and businesses, and that supporters are respectful and considerate whilst walking through residential streets convenient to the stadium.

“The areas around the National Stadium are ‘No Street Drinking’ zones under Belfast City Council by-laws and these by-laws should be complied with at all times.

“We hope that the match is enjoyed by all and would remind those attending to behave in a manner befitting the reputation of their teams.”
