Labour’s alleged “election interference” against Donald Trump could cause a “speed bump” in UK-US election if the 78-year-old becomes the 47th President, Republicans Overseas UK’s Greg Swenson has told GB News.
Sir Keir Starmer was embroiled in scathing complaint by the 2024 White House hopeful after Trump’s campaign claimed the “far-left” party is involved in “blatant foreign interference” by appearing to support Democrat rival Kamala Harris.
The complaint, sent to the US Federal Electoral Commission by the Trump campaign, stated that the “illegal foreign assistance” was “another feeble attempt in a long line of anti-American election interference”.
Defending the party against the complaint, Starmer affirmed that the Labour Party “has volunteers who have gone over pretty much every election”.

He added: “They’re doing it in their spare time, they’re doing it as volunteers, they’re staying, I think, with other volunteers over there. That’s what they’ve done in previous elections, that’s what they’re doing in this election and that’s really straightforward.”
Speaking to GB News, Swenson claimed that the tensions caused by the complaint could impact the future relationship between the UK and US if Trump is victorious in November.
Swenson argued: “He takes things personally, and he really makes decisions based on personal relationships. He does carry these grievances with them, so I think there’s a risk there.
“Obviously the Labour Party, Keir Starmer, David Lammy, they should have known that. Hopefully he doesn’t carry the grudge here, and hopefully he just gets over it and this thing blows over.”

Despite offering some optimism that Trump will not hold a grudge against Labour, Swenson highlighted that Lammy’s past comments about Trump will “not help” the situation.

Swenson explained: “It’s just bad optics, it’s bad timing, for sure. They are the party in power right now, but also, it’s two weeks before the election.
“This comes after attempts by both Keir Starmer and David Lammy in the summer to kiss and make up and reach out to Trump. David Lammy’s past comments were really obnoxious, really offensive too.
“And so this might be a bit of a speed bump in that process.”
When asked by host Ben Leo if he believes Trump can win his second term as President against Harris, Swenson was certain that he will secure a victory.

Swenson declared: “Trump will win. All the momentum is with Trump right now.”
In the latest polling conducted by FiveThirtyEight, Trump is less than two per cent behind Harris with just two weeks until US voters take to the ballot box.
Kamala Harris is currently ranking at 48.1 per cent among US voters, with Trump slightly trailing behind with 46.4 per cent of the vote.
