A school in Co Down has asked parents to support them by encouraging their children to remove any photos of an “extremely vulnerable person” from their phones after an incident attended by emergency services.

Bangor Academy and Sixth Form College has said there was an ongoing incident outside the school which started this morning.

The PSNI have since confirmed that road users can now access Castle Street in Bangor and the area has now fully reopened to traffic.

“The PSNI and other services are involved and our students have been extremely understanding and respectful throughout,” the school said in a statement on social media.

“No student or staff member has been at any risk whatsoever, but we have had to change some of the routines such as break and lunchtime to support the PSNI.

“We have been made aware that there may have been photographs taken and/or received by students and whilst they have done nothing wrong, I have asked them this afternoon to remove them.

“Please can you reinforce this message with your children as they may not fully understand that this is an extremely vulnerable person in a traumatic situation.

“I understand why students may have done this and they are not in any trouble, but I would really appreciate you supporting him and us by removing them.

“There will undoubtedly be disruption to bus and car journeys after school if this continues, but we have liaised with Translink and will do our best to ensure everyone gets home in good time.

“Thank you for your ongoing support this half term and have a lovely holiday.”
