Work has begun on a new “private access spa” and garden in the former private courtyard of a famous Co Antrim hotel.

Over £600,000 is being spent on the facility at the Dunadry Hotel, which will be a 10-bedroom “retreat” for guests looking for a “child-free break” and “high-end staycations” focused on health and wellness.

The hotel say their “aim is to provide an intimate and exclusive space with direct access from the guest bedrooms where they can enjoy hot tubs, sauna, cool water plunge, glass house and relaxation areas.”

It has been designed and constructed by the Newtownabbey firm Pure Fitout, and is set to be completed by mid-November.

Paul Quinn, general manager, at Dunadry Hotel and Gardens said: “The Dunadry has undergone significant development in recent years, creating a much more up-market look and feel, complete with specialist offerings to broaden its appeal to the tourism market.

“Our new spa comes a few months after the opening of The Cellar, a private venue to showcase and taste an extensive range of premium Irish whiskeys and fine wines. These unique attractions will only complement each other.

“Much of this development has been driven by the ever-changing needs and demands of our guests, visitors and corporate clients. It also reflects how our, “we do more” ethos applies across our staff, our culture and our guest experience.”

The Dunadry is owned by the McKeever group. The hotel has a long history, occupying the same ground as an ancient fort.

It was turned into a hotel in 1966 and was run as by the Mooney Group from 1986 to 2017. McKeever purchased the site that year for an undisclosed fee.

Eddie McKeever, managing director at McKeever Hotel Group said: “Wellness continues to transform the hospitality sector with demand for sanctuary spa spaces soaring as consumers become increasingly health conscious.

“While we’ve always offered facilities such as the Health & Fitness Club and massage therapies to guests, we realised there was a gap in the market for a premium retreat experience.

“Even for those who aren’t necessarily health and wellness-focused, our new spa allows us to tap into the luxury staycation market, offering a bespoke experience to couples, honeymooners and parents wanting a quality child-free, relaxing break.”
