A man who threw missiles during a violent disorder in Bristol city centre over the summer has been jailed. Abdinasir Hussein, standing among counter-protesters during the August 3 riot, twice threw missiles at protesters in Redcliffe Way.

The 24-year-old went to Castle Park, where violent scenes broke out between far-right groups and counter protesters on August 3. Later, he was seen on CCTV in Redcliffe Way throwing objects at the protesters.

Judge Edward Burgess said that by throwing these objects, Hussein “added fuel to the already caused fire.” He added: “Even though you were not a central part within the disorder, you still contributed to this very violent disorder which put members of the public and especially officers at extreme risk.”

Hussein, from Fishponds, pleaded guilty to violent disorder and was sentenced at Bristol Crown Court today (October 22) to jail for 18-months. He is the 34th person to be sentenced over the violent scenes during the summer.

Detective Chief Inspector Tom Herbert said: “Abdinasir Hussein’s actions contributed significantly to the disorder we saw that day, as the judge clearly set out in court today.

“We have made it consistently clear that we would not tolerate the violent behaviour we saw that day and more than 30 people have now been sentenced, most of whom are now serving custodial sentences.”
