A teenage boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman in Bristol. Emergency services have been at a property in Cromwell Road, St Andrew’s since Sunday evening after a woman, believed to be in her late teens, was pronounced dead.

Avon and Somerset Police were called to Cromwell Road in St Andrew’s at around 6.20pm on Sunday, October 21. A teenage boy, 16, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

Formal identification has yet to be completed on the victim, but her next of kin have been informed and a post-mortem exam is due to take place at a later time, Avon and Somerset Police said. A spokesperson for the force said their thoughts are with her family at this time.

An investigation is ongoing by the Major Crime Investigation Team and a cordon remains in place on Cromwell Road while further enquiries are made. Neighbourhood Chief Inspector Vicks Hayward-Melen said: “Tragically, a young woman has lost her life and our thoughts are with her family and loved ones at this devastating time. Specialist family liaison officers are supporting them and will continue to keep them updated on our investigation.

“There will be a large police presence in the area over the coming days whilst we carry out the investigation, however we do believe this was an isolated incident and that there is no wider risk to the public.

“Our neighbourhood teams will be in the area conducting reassurance patrols and I would encourage anyone with any concerns to please speak to them.”
