Durham Regional Police have arrested one of their own for allegedly failing to provide the necessaries of life while on the job.
In a statement on Monday, police alleged that in March, while he was at a call for service, an officer didn’t offer medical assistance or first aid to a person in medical distress.
The person in distress was left in the care of a family member who later got medical assistance.
The person was taken to hospital and released.
“The Durham Region Police Service maintains accountability with supervisory oversight which includes proactive reviews of calls for service. During one of these reviews, an investigation was commenced into the alleged criminality,” police said in the statement.
Const. James Wright, a 23-year member with Durham police, has been charged with failing to provide the necessaries of life.
He was released on an undertaking and is suspended from duty with pay.
