Data analysis by Bristol Live has revealed that in this week alone, St George had the most streets with missed bin collections as reported by Bristol Waste. Looking at all the streets that were reported to have missed bin collections, both general waste and recyclable, we have found that overall, St George had the most missed bin collections, followed by Brislington and Whitchurch.

At a Bristol City Council Members Forum on Tuesday, October 8, Cllr Caroline Gooch (Westbury-on-Trym and Henleaze, Liberal Democrat) said that councillors and residents were “screaming into the void” when trying to express concerns over missed bin collections. Cllr Martin Fodor (Redland, Green, Chair of the Environment and Sustainability Policy Committee) said that re-routing of routes has meant that it had been challenging for Bristol Waste but vowed that collection issues would be resolved.

The Members Forum also revealed that a new managing director was appointed in order to improve and carry on progress being made to resolve current issues. Cllr Tony Dyer (Southville, Green), Leader of the Council, said that cuts to the service have had an impact but that a new plan to focus on commercial growth is developed.

Taking into account streets from Monday, October 14, until Friday, October 18, Bristol Live catalogued the streets into areas of Bristol and South Gloucestershire (where Bristol Waste also serves) to find which areas were the most affected this week. Recyclable waste is collected every week, but as general waste is collected every other week, half of the areas of Bristol will not be featured.

Data found that this week, there were a total of 301 streets with missed general waste bin collections and 53 streets where recycling was missed. There was no data for general waste issues for Friday at the time of writing.

Tuesday was the worst day for general waste as 161 streets were missed in total, including 49 in St George and 48 in Brislington. Interestingly, on Thursday, the only general waste bins that were missed were on streets in Shirehampton according to the data.
