Aldi has launched a new £2 item as part of its latest SpecialBuy range, which unintentionally has two uses. Not only will it help you get a good nights sleep, but it can also act as a spider repellent during the colder months.

The sight of a spider scurrying across your floor or up a wall this winter will leave arachnophobes petrified. The drop in temperature has led many eight-legged creatures to seek refuge indoors for warmth and mating.

While they may not be pleasant to look at, they’re merely acting on instinct and mean no harm. However, that doesn’t mean you have to tolerate these unexpected intruders who’ve decided to make your home theirs.

Instead, you can transform your home into their worst nightmare with Aldi’s new range. The store’s Lacura sleep range has been available in the middle aisle since October 17.

The products, starting from just £2, contain a blend of ingredients that spiders find repulsive, including lavender. Fortunately, humans and spiders have different ideas of unpleasant odours, reports the Mirror.

Aldi’s range utilises soothing scents of lavender and eucalyptus in the form of a candle, reed diffuser, pillow spray, and oil. It’s been known for years that these critters detest such strong smells, so those with a fear of spiders will reap double the benefits from these products – and likely sleep twice as soundly knowing their home is spider-proof.

The full range includes:

The best way to spread the scent around your home would be the Sleep Pulse Point Oil (£2.49) or the Sleep Pillow Mist (£2.49). Spiders, which smell through sensory organs on their legs, get overwhelmed by strong smells like citrus, peppermint, cinnamon and rose and often choose somewhere else to invade.

You can deter these creatures by setting up a barrier using these scents around common spider entry points. You should aim to cover windows and skirting boards where they can squeeze in through, as well as high corners where any brave spiders that make it past your line of defense might try to set up their webs.

The full range of products coming to Aldi’s middle aisle can be viewed online here. Alternatively, a in-store leaflet provides a preview of items arriving in shops in the upcoming weeks.

These items rotate every Thursday and Sunday and are only available while stocks last. So, if you’re keen on purchasing something, it’s best to act quickly.
