A man was left with signs of hypothermia after being rescued from water near the skate park underneath the M32, according to emergency services.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service and South Western Ambulance Service attended the scene at the M32 underpass shortly before 6pm (Friday, October 18), with the A432 Stapleton Road being closed and bus services temporarily diverted to allow emergency services to reach the casualty.

Avon and Somerset Police was also called to assist the fire service, but a spokesperson said that the incident had been resolved before officers arrived.

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called at 17.50 to a water rescue incident at Eastville, below the skate park. One adult male was trapped in a precarious position in culvert.

“Two fire engines from Temple Fire Station attended, alongside specialist Water Rescue Teams from Bedminster, and the Ambulance service.

“The casualty was made safe using throw lines and reach poles, then Water Rescue Crews were deployed on an inflatable raft to affect a rescue. The male was safely rescued and passed to the ambulance service for assessment, as he appeared to be suffering from hypothermia.”

The incident was resolved and the road reopened by 8.30pm. For the full story, visit our blog here.
