Comedian Jim Gaffigan is no stranger to roasting people while doing his stand-up routine.

During Thursday night’s Al Smith Dinner where he was the master of ceremonies, Gaffigan took shots at the Democratic Party and Vice President Kamala Harris, who skipped the Catholic charity event — the first presidential hopeful to do so in 40 years.

“You know, this event has been referred to as the Catholic Met Gala. Twenty-two per cent of Americans identify as Catholic,” said Gaffigan. “Catholics will be a key demographic in every battleground state. I’m sorry, why is Vice President Harris not here?”

Gaffigan roasted Harris for making time for other platforms and not the dinner itself.

I mean, consider this, this is a room full of Catholics and Jews in New York City. This is a layup for the Democratic nominee,” he said. “In her defence, I mean she did find time to appear on The View, Howard Stern, Colbert, and the longtime staple of campaigning, the Call Her Daddy podcast.

“You know what I think it is? I think she doesn’t like me,” he said, while asking Chuck Schumer if he had bad breath.

Targeting the Democrats, Gaffigan joked about if the party chose Harris to replace President Joe Biden because they feared Republican candidate Donald Trump would win by a lot.

Gaffigan said the Democrats have been saying that Trump’s re-election is a “threat to democracy,” and that they were so concerned about the threat that they “staged a coup, ousted their democratically elected incumbent and installed Kamala Harris.”

“In other words, all her dreams have come true. It really makes me consider the power of prayer, right Cardinal? Sometimes prayers take three-and-half years and a George Clooney op-ed,” he chuckled, per the New York Post.

Videos of Gaffigan’s remarks went viral on social media.

They aren’t jokes. Mostly factual information,” said another.

Jim Gaffigan is entertainment gold. He exists beyond political boundaries and is respected across the entire American spectrum,” another quipped.
