BORED AND DRUNK? WHATEVER YOU DO, DON’T CALL THE COPS

Bored and drunk are never a good combination – especially when it comes to calling the cops multiple times without an emergency to report.

So it went for East Algoma OPP, who eventually charged a chronic 911 caller from Spragge – 140 km west of Sudbury – after he allegedly rang the emergency digits three times.

OPP claim on Oct. 11, at approximately 11:30 p.m., officers responded to a third false 911 call from a residence on Hwy. 17 and “determined the caller was intoxicated for all three 911 calls and was apparently bored.”

Police say the caller was allegedly warned each time not to call 911 for non-emergency matters with the first two false calls coming in at 3:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Jackie McColl, 48, was charged with harassing communications and police say he held at Blind River detachment until he was sober.

BOY, 17, ACCUSED OF BB GUN SHOOTINGS IN NEWMARKET

York Regional Police are reminding the public about the dangers of BB guns after a youth was charged in connection with four incidents involving a replica firearm in Newmarket.

Police say on the afternoon of Oct. 16 that officers responded to four separate weapon calls in the area of Davis Dr. and Alexander Rd. with victims reporting being shot multiple times by a BB gun fired by a group of teens riding in a grey sedan.

No serious injuries occurred.

Officers found the vehicle and a 17-year-old Newmarket boy was charged with four counts each of assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are anticipated.

Police warn parents and teens that many replica firearms look identical to real guns and cops responding to these weapons calls are often in the position of having to make quick decisions on whether the weapon is real, a toy, or a replica, which could have significant consequences.

Anyone with information in relation this incident is asked to call police at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7141, or Crime Stoppers anonymously  at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
