Bristol Uni alumnus and actor-comedian Matt Lucas will be returning to Bristol to narrate a Christmas drone light show based on the Charles Dickens novel, A Christmas Carol.

Audiences are promised a ‘mesmerising’ show, which will see hundreds of animated drones take to the air on December 19, 20 and 21, at the Seat Unique Stadium (Gloucestershire County Cricket Club) in Bristol. It follows hugely successful sell-out drone light shows in Bristol, Cardiff and Nottingham last winter.

Tickets are £24 per adult and £17 for children and concessions and can be purchased here: yuup.co/a-christmas-carol. Early and late showings are available, with gates opening at 2.30pm for the early show and 7pm for the late show. There will be food and drink outlets serving a variety of refreshments, and a live DJ will play ahead of the 45-minute show, starting at 4.50pm and 8.45pm, respectively.

This time around the show, which is suitable for all ages, will be much longer, reimagining the classic tale of Ebenezer Scrooge and his ghostly visitors on Christmas Eve, with Matt Lucas telling the story. The former University of Bristol student, who received an honorary degree back in 2017, said: “I am thrilled to be narrating this new and exciting take on a Christmas classic.

“Using drones to tell a traditional story is brilliantly inventive and a glimpse into the future of entertainment. It’s a magical way to bring friends and family together during the festive season, and I’m sure it will delight everybody.”

Celestial, who are creators of drone light shows for brands across the globe, is the world’s first entertainment studio to use drone technology to tell epic stories in the sky, and together with Yuup (the local experiences company) and venue partner Seat Unique Stadium, are bringing A Christmas Carol The Drone Light Show to Bristol for the very first time.

Dominic Mills, founder and CEO of Yuup, adds: “Over 60,000 people have now viewed our previous Evolution shows, and each show gets bigger and better, extending the length considerably from our early productions. We are thrilled to have Matt Lucas narrate this unique show, adding an extra layer of magic to the experience.”

Neil Priscott, CEO of Gloucestershire CCC, said: “The reactions to the shows at the end of 2023 were unbelievable, and we’re proud to be a part of such a unique event. A Christmas Carol is going to be an incredibly special experience for everyone who gets to see it! It’s a new way for everyone to enjoy festive fun this Christmas, especially with Matt Lucas as the narrator.”
