York Regional Police have dismantled a large illegal psilocybin mushroom lab — one of the largest they have uncovered — and seized drugs with a street value of almost $500,000.
Police say officers executed warrants at a residence in Hamilton and a rural property on Victoria Rd. S. in Puslinch on Oct 15.
In Hamilton, they say officers seized approximately 100 pounds of magic mushrooms and a quantity of cash, while locating a large manufacturing facility in Puslinch.
Investigators believe the lab is producing magic mushrooms for illegal commercial distribution across Ontario.
The probe began in August after a search warrant was executed at a Whitchurch-Stouffville home where a small clandestine lab in which the psilocybin mushrooms were being grown was located.
That discovery led police to a larger operation in Puslinch and the Hamilton area.
Police on Thursday did not announce any arrests.
