A free men’s wellbeing walk is taking place this Sunday, October 20. The group will meet at Eastville Park at 2pm, opposite the nearby Shell garage.

The ‘walk and talk’ event led by professional walk leader Sophie Brown will last two hours and involve a walk around the pond. The walk leader hopes to organise coaches to go further afield in the spring.

The free event, which can be pre booked on eventbrite, is for over-18s only and a chance to socialise and get some light exercise. The walk is described as “a pleasant short refreshing walk and talk” around Eastville Park and pond, finishing at approximately 4pm.

Sophie Brown, who founded Steppin’ Sisters, a Bristol group walking group for women of colour, said she decided to start a men’s group after she started to get requests from men who were also interested in walking. This Sunday’s walk is the last of three taster sessions but the walk leader plans on setting up a regular walking group for men in the new year.

Speaking about the men’s walking group, Sophie said: “I’ve had men approach and ask for a men’s walking group. I think it’s only fair that men get included as well.

“Usually with men it’s either football or socialising in the pub but to walk frees your mind. It’s definitely needed and next year I hope to go further afield and take groups out to coastal areas and forests.”
