The final song of Liam Payne before his tragic death, titled ‘Teardrops’, includes the lyrics ‘I am broken too’. Earlier this year, the ex-One Direction member released the single and told his fans: “This song is born from many tears.”

Payne sadly lost his life after falling from the third-floor balcony of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Local authorities reported that the 31-year-old singer fell into the courtyard of the Casa Sur Hotel, situated in the Palermo district of the city, and his death was later confirmed by medics.

Buenos Aires police stated that they were initially called to the scene due to reports of a “violent individual who might have been influenced by drugs and alcohol.” The Foreign Office has confirmed it is liaising with Argentine authorities “regarding reports of the death of a British man”.

Photos show shocked and saddened fans gathering outside the hotel, which had been cordoned off by police. Forensic investigators, clad in white protective suits and blue gloves, have also been seen entering and exiting the site, reports the Daily Record.

Fans were spotted lighting candles and laying flowers at the roadside in tribute in an impromptu vigil for the pop star. In the hours preceding his death, Payne is said to have posted a video on Snapchat stating: “It’s a lovely day here in Argentina.”

In a reflective Instagram post shared 32 weeks ago, accompanied by behind-the-scenes footage of his singing, Payne opened up about the emotional depth of his new music: “Teardrops is out now. This song is born from many tears, not all mine. I hope you love it like I do and not too many of you can relate.”

Revealed as what now is his last solo release, the ‘Teardrops’ singer poignantly expressed in his lyrics: “Teardrops are falling down your face again, ’cause I don’t know how to love you when I am broken too.”

He touched on personal struggles with the lines: “All we do is break and bend, I’m struggling to see the sunrise lately. Really wish that I could mend all the little things that make you crazy. Checking all my friends, tryna to see what I did last night. Lately, I’m hating on myself ’cause I hate it when I make you cry.”

The track has been made available across numerous streaming platforms, such as YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Music. Tragically, the news of Payne’s passing comes amidst reports that his former fiancée, Maya Henry, had taken legal steps, reportedly issuing a cease and desist over persistent contact.

The American model, who was engaged to Payne between August 2020 and their separation announcement in June 2021, recently cited in a TikTok video that since parting ways, the singer persisted in ‘blow up my phone’ using various numbers.

Payne ascended to fame at a young age after a standout second appearance on ITV’s The X Factor, earning him a place in the globally-renowned boy band One Direction in 2010, where he performed beside Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Harry Styles.

In August this year, Payne was announced as a judge on a new Netflix show alongside former Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland and The Pussycat Dolls star Nicole Scherzinger. The stars were to judge attempts to create a band, looking at the contestants’ chemistry as they formed groupings in the musical competition series.
