A community dog show is coming to Bristol next month. Local dog owners will get the chance to enter their four-legged friends in competitions while supporting a mental health charity.

Rani Fernandez who lives near Barton Fields where the show and food fest will take place wanted to bring some positivity to the local green space and make it more inclusive. The show on Sunday, November 3 gives dog owners the chance to enter their pets into several competitions.

The categories include; the most gorgeous girl, the most handsome dude, cutest puppy (under 1 year), best rescue, best party trick, golden oldie (over 8 years), dog the judge would like to take home and best in show. Entries cost £1 per category and winners get the chance to take home a voucher from Redfield Pet Supplies.

The show itself will start at 2pm but the Paws and Platters event which includes a range of local food stalls will start at 12pm. Proceeds will support the Charity Cafe for their work and Rethink, in helping create a much-needed community garden.

Ms Fernandez organised the event on behalf of the mental health charity Rethink and plans on creating and even bigger one in 2025. The Community Development Coordinator who lives near Barton Fields in Speedwell said: “It’s a way of bringing the community together, to celebrate dogs and green spaces.

“We want to make Barton fields more inclusive as there’s been a lot of anti-social behaviour there recently. We want to bring some positivity back and for everyone to come together.”
