There have been 41 confirmed femicides in Northern Ireland since 2017.

Some 24 women have been killed here since 2020; their ages ranging from 81 to a child just over 1 year old.

In the past six weeks, four women have been killed here, bringing this year’s total of alleged femicides up to six.

At the time of recording this podcast, a further two deaths from this week are under investigation.

Six cases are currently before the courts relating to the death of a woman.

Northern Ireland has the third highest femicide rate in Western Europe.

Compared to the rest of the UK, women here are twice as likely to be murdered as a result of domestic violence.

Almost all of the women who died in violent circumstances here died in their homes.
