Prince William’s new role with the Football Association will not stop him from striking up a relationship with newly appointed England Head Coach Thomas Tuchel.

On Wednesday, it was announced that the German manager has agreed to lead the Three Lions until the summer of 2026.

This will take Tuchel to the next major international tournament which will be the 2026 World Cup.

Tuchel will take over the role of England’s Head Coach in January 2025.

Following the news, Prince William released a statement on social media welcoming the former Chelsea manager.

The Prince of Wales wrote: “Exciting times for @England, with a generation of talented players and a new manager taking the reins.

“Thomas, wishing you the best of luck, we’re all behind you! W”.

Prince William has built a strong relationship with previous England managers.

The Prince of Wales paid a touching tribute to Gareth Southgate in July, after it was confirmed he had stepped down as the Three Lions’ manager after eight years in charge.

The royal wrote: “Gareth, I want to thank you – not as the President of the @FA, but as an @England fan.

“Thank you for creating a team that stands shoulder to shoulder with the world’s finest in 2024.

“Thank you for showing humility, compassion, and true leadership under the most intense pressure and scrutiny.

“And thank you for being an all-round class act. You should be incredibly proud of what you’ve achieved. W.”

Just over a week later, Prince William announced he was stepping down as President of the FA.

The Prince of Wales was first appointed President of the FA in 2005 and held the position for almost 20 years.

The royal’s decision to step back from the role was motivated by his greater focus on new roles and responsibilities in Wales and as Duke of Cornwall.

In August, a month after stepping down as President of the FA, William issued a tribute following the death of ex-England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson.

William wrote: “Sad to hear about the passing of Sven-Göran Eriksson.

“I met him several times as England manager and was always struck by his charisma and passion for the game.

“My thoughts are with his family and friends. A true gentleman of the game. W.”

Thomas Tuchel will be just the third foreign manager of the Three Lions after Sven and Fabio Capello.

Despite no longer being the President of the FA, William’s statement welcoming the German indicates he will retain a strong bond and interest with the England team.

The royal will be hoping Tuchel can become the first person to lead England to major silverware since Sir Alf Ramsey masterminded the 1966 World Cup triumph over West Germany.
