A new retail experience is set to come to Bristol in a south-west exclusive. O’Donnell Moonshine, which specialises in handmade spirits, is bidding to open its third UK outlet at Cabot Circus.

The Manchester-based company, which started in 2016, has a flagship store in Shrewsbury and a pop-up store in Birmingham, would be located at the former Hyped Economy store between Claire’s and Three. The Hyped Economy store is now located next to Pret A Manger.

A Premises Licence application was submitted by O’Donnell Moonshine Limited on October 11. The store would sell its range of ‘moonshine’ drinks in mason jars a well as cocktails.

The application to Bristol City Council confirmed that the opening hours of the store would be from 9am to 9pm Monday to Saturday. On Sundays, it would be open from 11am to 5pm. Alcohol would be sold during this time.

The application said: “The premises will be an off-licence located in Cabot Circus Shopping Centre, will be operated by O’Donnell Moonshine for the retail sale of alcohol to the public, including tastings for customers (in line with sampling regulations of the Licensing Act 2003 and guidelines of drinkaware.co.uk).”

O’Donnell Moonshine takes inspiration from the American Prohibition era where alcohol was banned and gangs would sell the alcohol in mason jars. O’Donnell Moonshine takes its name from Spike O’Donnell, a gang leader in Chicago who sold moonshine.

The brand serves a range of flavours and beverages. Some of the moonshine flavours includes roasted apple, cookies and milk, lemon drizzle and cherry.

The deadline for comments on the application is on Friday, November 8.
