A Jet2 flight to Tenerife was forced to make an unscheduled landing some 300 miles away from its scheduled destination after a passenger required “medical assistance”. Flight LS3269, which took off from Liverpool John Lennon Airport at approximately 6.46am on Tuesday, October 15, had to divert and touch down on Porto Santo Island at 11.39am.
The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, remained on the ground for about five hours before resuming its journey to Tenerife, arriving at Tenerife South Airport around 1.30pm. A spokesperson for Jet2 confirmed the incident to the Liverpool ECHO, stating: “We can confirm that flight LS3269 from Liverpool to Tenerife diverted to Porto Santo on Tuesday (15th October), due to a customer requiring medical assistance.
“The aircraft subsequently continued its journey to Tenerife.” The diversion comes days after a Jet2 flight to Dalaman was forced to divert 3,000km away to Cologne in Germany due to an incident on Tuesday evening, October 8.
It is understood a passenger onboard became disruptive and had to be offloaded in Germany before the flight could continue to Turkey later that evening – arriving three hours later than planned.
Information on FlightRadar24 at the time showed the flight having departed Edinburgh on time shortly after 4pm. It was due to touch down in Dalaman at around 10.30pm but instead left Cologne at 9.30pm, as reported by Edinburgh Live.
