GB News’ Martin Daubney has claimed that he “doesn’t give a monkey’s” whether the England manager is English or not.

Thomas Tuchel, who is German, has been appointed as England’s new head coach and is set to take charge in January 2025.

He becomes only the third foreign manager to lead the Three Lions, following Swede Sven-Goran Eriksson and Italian Fabio Capello.

This decision has sparked discussions across the country, with some questioning the need for a non-English manager.

Daubney expressed his support for Tuchel, stating, “I don’t give a monkey’s if the England manager is a martian… as long as I lift the trophy before I die.”

Sports reporter Aiden Magee added: “I think he’s going to be great. This seems like an argument from 2001 with the very same naysayers and doom mongers were saying that Sven-Goran Eriksson couldn’t be the manager because he was Swedish.

“He was a decent English manager, Fabio Capello less so. But again, we’ve had these arguments before.

“Even Lee Castle, you can say he’s Republic of Ireland, but it does not matter as long as someone gets this team over the line.

“If and when England do win a trophy, it’ll be because 11 Englishmen on the pitch have been 11 Spaniards, or 11 Italians, or 11 Germans or so and so forth.

“It won’t be because of something that happened on the sidelines.

Thomas Tuchel has been appointed as England’s new head coach

“Yes, that will have an impact, but we’re talking about football here. And any results in football matches are decided on the field of play.”

Tuchel, 51, brings a wealth of experience to the England role after stints at Chelsea, Paris St Germain and Bayern Munich.

The German’s appointment was confirmed by the Football Association this morning, with Tuchel set to begin his tenure on January 1, 2025.

He became familiar with a number of English football stars during his time at Stamford Bridge and established a relationship with Three Lion captain Harry Kane at Bayern Munich.
