The cause of a fire which broke out at a house in west Belfast earlier today has been determined as deliberate ignition, the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service has said.

Firefighters were called to reports of a two storey house on fire on the Thames Street at around 12pm. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using two hose reels.

NIFRS also reported that two appliances from the Springfield Fire Station and one appliance from Central Fire Station attended the incident.

A spokesperson for NIFRS added that the cause of the fire was deliberate ignition and that the incident was dealt with by 1.09pm.

This follows an earlier statement by the PSNI warning motorists to expect delays while NIFRS tackled the fire.
