The organisers of the famous Bristol Christmas Market have confirmed that the Christmas Village will be coming to the city but later than initially planned. A question mark over whether the village would happen was raised after the planning application was withdrawn suddenly earlier this month.

But Relevention Limited has told Bristol Live that the village would still be coming to Bristol later this year, opening in December rather than next month. Taking place from December 5 until January 3, only closing on Christmas Day, the village will “complement the already established Bristol Christmas Market on Broadmead”.

Relevention explained that the Christmas Village concept would bring a wider variety of winter themed entertainment to Bristol. It will share the same management staff and building structures, but will provide new attractions and things to do for families and kids.

The entrance to the village will be located on St Peter’s Square, opposite Union Street. A roller rink, which measures 15 x 20 metres called Rollahub, will be open to the left of the entrance when walking into the village and play out a number of Christmas songs.

There are also plans for a curling rink which would be made of recycled materials, a simulated ice surface and supports eight people at a time. A VR sledge ride will be available, allowing visitors to take a virtual sleigh ride through winter scenery whilst wearing VR goggles.

A number of classic funfair rides will be situated in Castle Park, including a Waltzer, Dodgems and a balloon ride carousel, with all rides being paid for via a token system. Traditional funfair games will be dotted around the site.

As is tradition with the Bristol Christmas Market, bars and food options will be offering a variety of seasonal favourites and there will also be marshmallow toasting stations around the village. Every evening, the entertainment will include a light show on the walls of St Peter’s Church. Christmas trees and giant baubles will also be on display.

A spokesperson for Relevention said: “Bristol Christmas Village will open in Castle Park from December 5 until January 3, only closing on Christmas Day. We believe this will be a fantastic addition to Bristol’s Christmas offering.

“Bristol’s Christmas Village is a seasonal event that will take place daily during December in Castle Park. The event will complement the already established Bristol Christmas Market on Broadmead and is managed by the same provider with shared management staff and structures. The Christmas Village concept is to bring a wide variety of winter themed entertainment to the heart of Bristol.”

The Bristol Christmas Market is due to return on November 1, providing more than 35 stalls for visitors to look around. A candy-themed escape room and Jäger Barn Bar will also return to the iconic market.
