Heroes across Bristol could land up to £2,500 to help them boost their communities, thanks to a new fund set up to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards.

Grants of £2,500, £1,000 and £500 are all available as part of the Pride of Britain Fund’s £100,000 giveaway for good causes, and you can nominate the people or groups who you think should receive it.

It could be somebody like the Rugman’s Raiders and his friends who have raised almost £15,000 to help his friend Tim, who has been diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome ( which requires chemotherapy and bone marrow transplant) a challenge which has deeply affected him and his family.

Tim’s close friends has decided to take on the Three Peaks Challenge on November 9 and 10, 2024.

Joe Godfrey, setting up the GoFundMe page said: “We will be climbing the highest peaks in England, Scotland, and Wales within 24 hours to raise funds for Tim and his family during this difficult time.

“We would love your support in this endeavour, whether through donations or sharing this message with others. Every contribution, big or small, will make a meaningful difference in easing the financial burden on Tim and ensuring he receives the care he needs.

“Thank you for considering helping us in our mission to support our friend. Let’s show Tim & his family the love and strength they deserve and need at this tough time.”

Another superstar couple raising funds are husband and wife singing duo Claire and Dean Champness who have recorded their own song in memory of a little girl who was cared for by Children’s Hospice South West.

They have recorded their own version of the song ‘Special’, originally written by ska and reggae band The Dualers.

The single is raising money for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) in memory of Phoebe Pring who was supported by the charity.

Phoebe, from Nailsea, was first referred to CHSW’s Charlton Farm hospice in Wraxall when she was just 3 years-old.

The couple are taking out the CD to their gigs, offering audiences the chance to own a copy in return for a donation.

She was supported by the team at Charlton Farm until she died aged 7 earlier this year.

The £100,000 giveaway is part of celebrations to mark the 25th anniversary of the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards, which are screened on ITV1 later in the autumn.

The fund, a charity that aims to spread the Pride of Britain spirit, was set up to help charities and community organisations across the UK.

It has already given grants to more than 100 groups across the nation.

The Pride of Britain team will create a shortlist, but the final decision will rest with local communities all over the country, so you will be able to vote on who gets the funding in your area.
