For anyone with a smartphone, running out of battery at the wrong time can be a major pain. However, a lesser-known charging technique might just give iPhone users a few extra hours of power when they need it most.

Jordan Parkes, a tech expert from 1 Click Marketing, explains that when two iPhone 15s are connected using a USB-C cable, the one with the lower battery will start charging from the other: “Once the two iPhones are linked via cable, they automatically detect which one has less battery. The iPhone with more charge will begin transferring power to the other, although it will deplete its own battery in the process.”

This method even works when charging an older iPhone model using an iPhone 15. However, an older iPhone can’t charge an iPhone 15 – it only works in reverse. Additionally, this trick won’t work between two older models, such as a pair of iPhone 11s.

Jordan added: “If you’re planning to charge an iPhone 15 from another iPhone 15, you’ll need a cable with USB-C connectors at both ends. Meanwhile, if you’re charging an older iPhone from an iPhone 15, you’ll require a cable with a USB-C on one end and a Lightning connector on the other.”
